This week, I'm doing 'teacher tuesday' on wednesday. Today I was able to go and meet my students for next year. IT WAS SO AWESOME!! The kids were so sweet and eager to learn. I was able to chat with a lot of them and get a good feel for what they like and don't like in their classroom. I feel so fortunate to be able to teach at Central next year. The staff was so welcoming and are truly exceptional teachers. I already feel so supported.
Searching and applying for my first teaching job was so frustrating. As a first year teacher it is so difficult to get your foot into the door with a district or school. I felt like I was looked over for positions I thought would be a perfect fit. Even when I had worked hard to make connections in the profession and volunteered for hours upon hours, I was not the first pick. It was so disappointing.
When I was offered two positions to chose between I was nervous. The choice I made would effect my life directly for the next few years and in the long run. After visiting the school I am so excited and happy with my decision. I have realized that everything happens for a reason.
My experience has really been a testimony builder. I recognize that the Lord has a plan for me and has my best interest in mind even when I can't see what that might be. I feel so at peace with my immediate future and excited to meet the challenges that will come, knowing that the Lord is there to strengthen me.

Journaling: Weekend Fun
I feel like our summer is already half over and the weather has just finally started cooperating. This weekend was one of the first this year that really felt like summer to me. The weather was gorgeous! One of the other ladies at work offered to give me the day off on Saturday, so lucky me!
Saturday we were able to drive out to 'Writing On Stone' and meet up with the Pavan clan. It was nice to see them all and hang out for a few hours. We also ran into our friends, Hans and Jen, with their son Hyrum. They are such a cute little family! Hans just got his first teaching job out in Vauxhall. I am so excited for him to start teaching out there; I know he'll do an awesome job!
Saturday night we went mini golfing at Evergreen. This has always been one of our favourite summer activities and this weekend was no exception. We had a great crowd and awesome weather. I can't wait to have more super fun summer nights this year.
Sunday we headed out to Barnwell for Baby Berkley's blessing. She is so adorable and is so loved by everyone around her. Buck, Ash and her make such a cute little family. Great weekend for a baby blessing!

My Attempt at Meal Planning
I have sucked at blogging lately (I guess a few days really isn't that bad and you guys probably get sick of reading my posts but I feel like its been a while haha). This is exactly what I was afraid would happen if I started a blog... I didn't want to start strong and then forget to post for months on end. Since I started working full time again it has been a lot harder to post but I guess I need to make it a priority. I think my other problem is that or life is relatively boring now that we're into the summer work routine and so thinking of topics to blog about is difficult to say the least. I apologize in advance if this post is terribly boring.
Today I wanted to share my attempt at meal planning. Lately I really began to dislike dinner time at our house. Don't get me wrong, I love food and I even enjoy making it but.. I HATE coming home from work and then having to think about what to make for dinner. Admittedly I sucked at being a loving wife who had dinner home waiting for my husband every night when school got really busy at the end of the semester. Matt didn't to let me know (I like to think he was joking around but we all know there's truth behind every 'joke'). Not that he complained a lot but I did start to feel bad. I think it was my own fault because I began our marriage as the 'house wife extrordinaire'. I always made dinner and other treats to have around the house so Matt grew accustomed to that lifestyle.
One benefit to not making dinner every night is that Matt has definitely stepped up. I guess he go fed up with waiting for his food and so sometimes he takes it upon himself to make dinner. This week alone he make grilled chicken sandwiches with fries on monday, and beef stroganoff on tuesday. What a great guy!
When I decided to start meal planning I didn't want to discourage Matt's willingness to make dinner so each week I try to plan at least one meal that Matt knows how to make so that if I don't want to cook or am busy with other things, he can step up (haha 'sneaky mom').
I also made a template for our meal plan. I got my idea off of Pinterest but I didn't love any of the colour schemes so I just made one on my own. I put a big version in a sheet protector on the fridge and then printed smaller versions. The big one is where I put the finished meal plan and grocery list for the current week. I used a dry erase marker so that it was easy to change each week. The smaller ones were great to use as working copies to plan out each week and to take to the store because they had my grocery list.
After I plan out each week I always keep the meal plan so that I can recycle it in the future. Matt likes to have variety in his meals throughout a particular week. For example be couldn't have to pasta dishes on two consecutive nights, or we couldn't have tacos and then greek wraps back to back because they are too similar. Sometimes I laugh when he brings this up but it's true... 'variety is the spice of life', so I try to put some thought into my meal plans which means it makes even more sense to reuse the ones we like.
I have found that when meal planning it is easy to rely on your go to meals. Often those are the meals I have ingredients on hand for and so its easy to get stuck in a rut making the same things all the time... BORING!! I decided another rule for my weekly meal plan was that each week I would try a new recipe. I hope that this will expand my repertoire of 'go-to' meals that I have on hand and can make easily.
I have decided that I am going to start 'FOOD FRIDAY' on my blog. First because it will save me from having to think of something to write; and second so that I can share some of my failures and successes in the kitchen.

Exciting Day... Graduation and My First Teaching Job!
Yesterday was my convocation from the University of Lethbridge... I received a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of education! My five year career as a student is over. I am a real teacher!
OTHER EXCITING NEWS FROM YESTERDAY...
I GOT A JOB!!!!!
I had to leave early from convocation to go to a couple job interviews; one in Lomond and one in Taber. I was offered both positions... YAY!!! I had to choose which one I wanted to accept and it was a VERY DIFFICULT DECISION!! I chose to accept a position teaching grades five and six at central school in Taber in the low german mennonite program. I am so excited to have a position for the fall and can't wait to get started planning for the year!

Teacher Tuesday... a Little Late
On monday I had an interview in Hays. It was for a division one job, mostly grades 3-4. Unfortunately I didn't get the position but it was still an awesome experience and the principal gave me some great feedback. I have another interview in Lomond on Friday and it's for grades 7-10 language arts and social studies. Lomond is in the middle of the prairies by Vulcan.
The drive is long but bearable, 45mins. This position would be a better fit for me and is more in line with my previous experience. Plus I could commute from lethbridge. I was able to sub at the school yesterday afternoon and it was nice to see the school and meet some people before I go interview there. Wish me luck!
For Teaching Tuesday I wanted to share a unit I put together for grade eight language arts on the four types of writing: persuasive, narrative, expository, and descriptive. The unit is based on short stories and so it builds in some reading comprehension aswell. When I taught this unit to my grade eights at Wilson they loved each of the short stories and did some awesome writing.
Below I have posted some downloadable files that I used throughout the unit.
